Cuervo y Sobrinos “Millemiglia” writing instruments

A world of tradition, elegance and glamour

Cuervo y Sobrinos is very proud to announce a very exclusive co-operation with the MILLE MIGLIA – the most famous and fascinating classic car race in the World also called “Freccia Rossa” (red arrow because of the typical logo). The first Mille Miglia race (1000 miles – from Brescia to Rome and back to Brescia) was held in June 1958.

The brand with Swiss heart and Latin soul has just finalized an arrangement with the prestigious “Mille Miglia” organization for the creation of an exclusive Cuervo y Sobrinos “Mille Miglia” writing instruments collection.

Cuervo y Sobrinos has demonstrated in the last 5 years an unfailing attachment to the world of the classic cars and several watches models of the Swiss manufacturer have been dedicated to this fascinating world.

The pairing of fine writing instruments with the classic car is a world premiere for Cuervo y Sobrinos. And the pairing could not have been more appropriate. The Swiss “Latin” brand and “Mille Miglia” have several common values. A long and proud tradition, passion, Latin character, glamour and performance. These striking similarities between the two brands have resulted in this prestigious partnership and great enthusiasm from both parties.

The “Mille Miglia” collection includes one fountain pen and one roller ball pen. The design and the appeal of those writing instruments achieves a perfect balance between the essential aesthetical values of Cuervo y Sobrinos and the powerful sporting character of the Mille Miglia.

The exquisitely hand-finished metalwork encloses the beautiful “Mille Miglia” red coloured resin barrel. The design of the metal filigree is inspired by the hinges of the old vaults in the Cuervo y Sobrinos original boutique in La Habana. At the same time the inside decoration of the metal plate (with an engraved Mille Miglia logo) recalls the typical grille of the Formula 1 cars of the pre War era. The pens created by Cuervo y Sobrinos for this prestigious partnership are produced by the well-known manufacturer Montegrappa in Bassano del Grappa (Italy).

The two Mille Miglia pens are meticulously turned by hand, with three layers of resin to eliminate the typical transparency that this material presents, and to make them more resilient. The emblem of Cuervo y Sobrinos is engraved on the cap; the clip is a work of art in itself, and is a further demonstration of the brand’s attention to design details. In a typical “Art Deco” shape, the clip recalls the silhouette of the 'Espléndidos' case-an important icon of the Cuervo y Sobrinos collection.

Both writing instruments are limited to 1609 pieces as a tribute to the 1000 miles (1609 km) of this legendary race.

Each pen comes with an amazing black and red lacquered wooden box with a metal “Mille Miglia” plate on the lid.

The Mille Miglia race 2010 starts on Friday May 6th from Brescia (to Rome) and on Saturday 8th all participants will come back to Brescia.
