Historiador Hemingway Collection Launch - Key West July 2023

Cuervo y Sobrinos pays tribute to its longtime and loyal customer Ernest Hemingway, celebrated writer and authentic legend of the 20th century, with the launch of a new collection of 3 watches entirely dedicated to the writer.

Under the patronage of John Hemingway, grandson of the writer, the watch collection was launched in Key West, Florida for the Hemingway Days 2023, the annual celebration salutes the Nobel Prize–winning author’s writing achievements and enjoyment of the island’s easygoing lifestyle - an annual event that has been going on for decades.

Ernest Hemingway look-alikes, writers, anglers, and fans of the late author’s work were gathered in Key West Tuesday through Sunday, July 18-23, 2023, for the annual Hemingway Days celebration. The festival honors the legacy of the American literary giant who lived and wrote on the island for most of the 1930s.

Cuervo y Sobrinos was there, at the San Carlos Institute, a Cuban heritage center founded in 1871 by Cuban exiles who came to Key West to plan the campaign for Cuba's independence from Spain.

With the support of our authorized retailer in Key West, a family-owned jeweler known as Emeralds International - which has excellent connections to the local community- and CyS distributor for the United States Provenance Gems, the company organized a gathering hosted by Massimo Rossi, the CEO of Cuervo y Sobrinos as a preview to present the Historiador Hemingway Collection to the public. The evening was attended by John Hemingway, grandson of the famous writer, who accepted the invitation with enthusiasm and excitement, he was officially the first wearer of the Hemingway Icónico with the cream dial.

Papa's Pilar distillery's rum was served to the guests, it is the rum is inspired by Ernest 'Papa' Hemingway and his beloved boat, the Pilar.

Ernest Hemingway had a home in Key West, which is why the city at the southern-most end of Florida (and the United States) honors him. Hemingway also lived in Cuba for around 20 years. Havana, Cuba is where Cuervo y Sobrinos as a brand began.

Ernest Hemingway often visited the Cuervo y Sobrinos store in Cuba, and it is known that he was someone who appreciated fine timepieces. This history encouraged the Cuervo y Sobrinos of today to explore its legacy relationship with Hemingway and develop a modern, yet classically inspired, watch collection based on the Historiador model.

This involves an official relationship between Cuervo y Sobrinos and the Hemingway Foundation which owns the rights to the author’s likeness, as well as Ernest Hemingway’s family. The new Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador Hemingway collection spans three different limited-edition models that are inspired by the life and work of one of literature’s greatest heroes.

The festival’s undisputed highlight is the Hemingway Look-Alike Contest at Sloppy Joe’s Bar, 201 Duval St., a frequent hangout for the writer during his 1930s residence in Key West. Scores of stocky, bearded entrants are to parade across Sloppy Joe’s stage before a judging panel of previous winners during preliminary and final rounds.

The winner of the Look-Alike Contest received a Hemingway Icónico watch, a beautiful timepiece that has made other contest participants jealous, thankfully the whole collection is available on Cuervo y Sobrinos e-shop.
